Is there anything tricky about changing water pumps?

1996 pontiac sunfire 2.2 liter

it really doesnt look hard but nothing goes as planned when your working on a car and i have never changed one before, so basically anything would help

man not only thing i can say is just try dont get mad or pissed cause u cant get it just take some time and make shure u keep all the parts i havent worked on a pontiac but its easy as hell with the 2000 honda civics love them that and the ones on 90 supra check out the forums for pontiac sunfires they have one and im sure that you could get somthing better there

REMOVAL PROCEDURE



1. Negative battery cable.

2. Drain and recover the cooling system.

3. Loosen water pump. pulley bolts.

4. Drive belt.

5. Water pump. pulley attaching bolts, then remove the pulley.

6. Coolant surge tank hose.

7. Water pump attaching bolts, then remove the pump. Clean sealing surfaces completely.



INSTALLATION PROCEDURE



1. Using a new gasket, install the pump. Tighten bolts to25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)

2. Water Pump Pulley to Pump. Tighten bolts to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.)

3. Drive belt.

4. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Bulletin No. 63-62-03.

5. Negative battery cable.

6. Inspect for leaks.
If you've bought the original replacement and not the imitation replacement then there will be no problem. It will last for years if attached to fit. Imitation replacements don't last long because of the substandard material it was constructed.
Just make sure you clean all the metal shavings away from the block.
