How do I change the water pump in a over 20 yr old Cadillac?

I know where it is, but theres stuff in the way, whats the easiest way to get it out and put a new one in?
How do I change the water pump in a over 20 yr old Cadillac?
The vehicle information would be helpful. There are at least 8 different models of Cadillac's that were available 20 years ago, all of which had different engines and options. I could tell you how to replace the water pump on a 1988 DeVille but if you happen to have a Fleetwood or Eldorado, my directions won't do you any good.
How do I change the water pump in a over 20 yr old Cadillac?
Taking it to a licensed Cadillac repair shop.
There is no easy way, you still have to remove the fan (if it still has a clutch fan and not an electric one) and release tension on the serpentine belt. You'll also have to remove any brackets in the way.
There isn't an easy way for you to do it. The easy way is to pay someone else to do it. The way to change the Cadillac water pump is to do a lot of work getting all that stuff out of the way- I hope to God you don't have to disconect the airconditioner since you can't get freon anymore to refill it. One of the luxuries about owning a luxury car is paying a barrel of money for simple repairs.

I have a 2000 vw bug and i need help in changing the thermostat or the water pump?

i need the location of the water pump or for the thermostat thank you
I have a 2000 vw bug and i need help in changing the thermostat or the water pump?
The water pump is timing belt driven and is under the plastic timing cover on passenger side. These water pumps have a history of breaking, due to the fact they have a plastic impeller and it shears off the shaft, which causes the engine to overheat. First you want to remove the thermostat and then check the water pump. Follow the lower radiator hose to where it connects to the engine. That flange is where the thermostat is at. After you remove the thermostat you can shine a light in the hole and put your finger in there, if the impellar of the water pump moves, it needs to be replaced. If it does, then you might as well replace the timing belt and tensioner, seeing how you have to remove it to get the water pump off.

How to change a water pump on a 1964 corvette stingray.?

I need step by step instructions, as this is a 75,000 dollar car, and I dont want to break it. I also cant afford to take it in to a mechanic.
How to change a water pump on a 1964 corvette stingray.?
It's pretty easy, I'll walk you through it. Start by draining the cooling system. If your radiator has a petcock, open it and drain the coolant into a bucket or some other container. If your radiator does not have a petcock, loosen the lower radiator hose clamp and let the fluid drain out. If it's draining really slowly, take the radiator cap off to release the vacuum pressure.

While the old pump is still mounted, remove all of it's plugs and fittings. Next, loosen and remove the fan, belts, brackets and hoses.

Now you can unbolt the old water pump. Be sure to use a scraper to clean all of the old gasket material off of the engine block (this is important).

You will have to remove the fan mounting studs from the fan hub on the old water pump. This can be done by using a pair of vise grips, stud puller socket or double nuts. To use double nuts, put two nuts onto the stud, tighten one against the other, then using a wrench on the nut closest to the hub, twist the stud out. One nut will lock against the other and you will twist the stud right out.

Put some teflon tape onto the threads of any plug or fitting that has been removed from the water pump and screw them into the new one. Carefully place the new gasket onto the pump.

Install the new pump. Work slowly and make sure the gaskets stay in place. Before you screw the bolts all the way down, apply some thread sealer on the threads to prevent water from seeping past and causing a drip at the bolt head.

Once the new pump is in, re-install the hoses and hose clamps. Now install the belts, pulleys, brackets and fan. Snug the fan into place. It's a lot easier to tighten the bolts down after the belts have been adjusted to the proper tension.

Once everything's back where it should be, fill the radiator with new engine coolant and start it up. Run it for 10-15 min or until it reaches operating temperature then shut it off. Go back under the hood and check for leaks. If everything looks good, you're done!

Dude, spend some lightweight coin on a Chilton's manual (which should cover the basic job of a water pump change) or, get on eBay and rustle up a genuine GM Factory Service Manual for your car. Why would your trust your $75k baby to a bunch of online hacks?????

Or, check some of these sites:

http://www.autorepairmanuals.biz/

http://www.factoryautomanuals.com/

http://www.repairmanual.com/

http://www.lloydsautolit.com/

And you should be asking your question on one of the bazillion forums specifically for Corvette owners......

Good luck, and it really isn't that hard to do.....
Like the first poster said, you should spend a couple bucks and get a manual. Here is a great source for new and used (thru ebay) inexpensive manuals for corvettes: http://www.findcorvettesforsale.com/store/Store/corvette-manual

The water is separate inside the heat exchanger from the refrigerant. You should be able to easily change the (fill) pump without recovering the refrigerant.

Why does a car water pump fail?

I'm using an old Mitsubishi Lancer. Recently I changed my water pump it was leaking.

To me it looked like a piece of metal, with a small fan thing (not motorized) How can it fail? There is no mechanics to it, just like a pipe with a fan (or turbine)

I also messed with my radiator, I unhooked the main hose to clean out the coolant, since the plug was jammed. Could this have contributed to the failing of my water pump?
Why does a car water pump fail?
The water pump has a gasket inside to stop coolant from leaking out. When the gasket fails, coolant comes out of what is called a weep hole. If you don't replace the water pump, the bearing gets saturated with coolant and fails. When the bearing fails, the water pump pulley ceases and the belt fails. I have seen this too many times.
Why does a car water pump fail?
That fan thing is called an impeller and when it spins it pumps coolant through the motor and radiator to keep it cool. It spins off a belt that is connected to the crankshaft pully and possiabley the alternator. That impeller and shaft spin on sealed roller bearings. These bearing will last a a lot of miles but they will wear out, and when they do the shaft moves out of round and wears out the seal that keeps the coolant from leaking out past the shaft. Over tighting of the drive belt will wear out the bearinge prematurley, but a pump will usually last 100,000 miles
if the radiator is clogged up, the water pump cant circulate the water.
if the plug was jammed then the most likely cause was some type of sealant someone put in the radiator to fix a leak......this is a prime example of why I say never to use the sealers in your engine.......

what happened to your water pump is really rather simple......the waterpump (WP) is a simple device that spins and has bearings......the coolant you buy in the store has lubricants in it to keep the waterpump luricated.....the sealer that was put into the cooling system sealed of the passages the coolant uses to lubricate the WP bearings......this created too much friction and wore your bearing out causing the pump to fail!!!!!!......you need to flush the cooling system thoroughly several times to get all the sealer out......even then it will take a little luck and lots of praying for the sealer not to plug your engine water jacket and cause overheating!!! good luck!!!

1987 ford tauras change all gaskets and had complete tu ne up then change water pump replaced distributor madu?
    Define all gaskets please.

Requirements for the vehicle to run.

1 Must have fuel spray from injectors

2 must have electric spark at spark plugs

3 must have compression correctly timed.

Since you did tune up and module, I would start there looking for an incomplete connection (happens to the best of us)

Was head gasket one of the gaskets? if so timing may not have been re-set correctly.

Check to see if the ground straps were re-connected when valve cover(s) were removed if applicable

Make sure connections are good for all of the fuel injectors (may have knocked them loose)

This list can go on forever.
First check for fuel pressure by depressing the shrader valve on the fuel rail. If fuel pressure does not exist, then focus on the IRCM that mounts above the radiator: it's not uncommon. I think you will have fuel pressure, and the biggest place you can make a mistake is the firing order of the plugs. The distributor rotation is different between 3.0 and 3.8 engines. Remove the valve cover if necessary, and make sure cylinder #1 is at TDC at the start of the ignition stroke, and connect plug 1 to where the rotor is pointing to. Continue to install plug wires in the direction the rotor rotates, using the firing order cast into the intake manifold. If that doesn't work, then see if the plugs are getting wet with fuel and check the plug gap.

How do you change the water pump in a 1996 Isuzu Oasis/Honda Odyssey?

I can not find a Chilton book for these models locally, so if you have one and could scan me the pages, cool! If not and you have the answer to my question, I need it! Please, don't answer me by telling me to take it to a mechanic. It is a $57 part tops, and they want between $400 - 800 to fix it.

    Thank you!
How do you change the water pump in a 1996 Isuzu Oasis/Honda Odyssey?
The Isuzu has a timing pump driven water pump, so if the timing belt is due to be replaced, both jobs are normally done at the same time along with replacing the timing belt tensioner pulley. It'a an %26quot;interference%26quot; type engine that bends the valves if the belt breaks and ruins the engine. The reason the shops want $700 is because they're doing a complete timing belt replacement to get to the water pump.

i have changed water pump, radiator and thermotast and it still overheat
Hello i have a 1993 eagle vission my problem is yhat is overheating butt i have changed the water pump, radiato?
(In addition to the above suggestions)

Are the hoses good? Old hoses can collapse, blocking water flow. They should have been changed with the radiator, but not everyone does.

Has the radiator fan been checked out to be sure it's working properly? If the fan isn't working properly, enough air might not get through to cool it down properly.

Is it actually boiling over, or is the temp gage just showing it hot? I ask because it could be a faulty temp sensor.

I'll assume that there's no debris between the radiator and condenser since the radiator has been changed out already. This should also mean that nothing is in front of the condenser blocking airflow.

I just replaced a water pump on a 1994 dodge ram 1500. What should I charge for labor?

What should I charge for labor? It was an involved job, I've changed many water pumps but this was one of the more difficult that most I have done. I do tons of side jobs but feel like i'm cutting myself short sometimes. What would be a fair price for labor on this vehicle. I can't imagine a shop would let you leave for under a couple hundred in labor, so I figure 80 bucks may be fair?? What do you think?
I just replaced a water pump on a 1994 dodge ram 1500. What should I charge for labor?
    I would say about $150

Especially if you have to pull the radiator
I just replaced a water pump on a 1994 dodge ram 1500. What should I charge for labor?
shouldn't the price of the job been settled on before you did any work.80 is too cheap.150 is more like it.But what if the owner doesn't like that price. The cars already fixed!!!!!oh oh!!
You could charge by the hour like shops do. The ones around here (dealers) charge a lot - $75/hr. just for labor alone. Seems like $80 would be very fair, especially if it was a tough job. You didn't mention how long it took to do it. You could call a dealer nearby and ask what they would charge, so if the owner gets upset at what you charge, you could tell them how much it would have been at the dealer. You provided a service that the owner wouldn't or couldn't do, so don't sell yourself short, especially for a really good job!
    A WATER PUMP TAKES ABOUT 2-3 HOUR JOB.SHOP'S CHARGE ABOUT 75-95 DOLLARS A HOUR PLUS PARTS.SO 240.00 TO 160.00
you can easily charge around 65 bucks an hour and not be questioned over it,i know how hard those are to change,i usually go by the hour on those because of the complications involved with doing some of them,id go with 65 bucks an hour that's a fair way to price it,and don't forget to mark up your parts other wise you loose money on them unless the customer bought them, good luck with it.,,PS if your going to do this for a living or even part time make sure you get paid for it,the book time on some of these jobs isn't worth the paper its written on,the engineers don't take this in to consideration when they make up the labor rates on these jobs, good luck.
most shops charge about 80 an hour
It takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. But this is for an experienced tech. Unless you had unexpected trouble, I would charge for 2 hours. about 80 bucks is fair. You don't want to run you're business off just because this was the first pump you did on this type motor. You need to get a book telling you how much time it normally takes to do a job. And don't cut you'reself short either. They can have you do it for $80 labor or they can take it to a dealer for twice that much.......at least. Where I live they charge $85 an houre!
    i would say about 85
    I'd say at least $100.00!
it calls for 1.7 hours and can be done in a little over a half hour. if i was doing it on the side i wouldn't charge more than 40.

I just want my car to work again and now there is water in the spark plugs and it wont start what is the cheapest way to take care of this
Chevy cavilier changed my water pump and took out thermostat why are my spark plugs wet and the car wont start?
    Sounds like a blown head.
Chevy cavilier changed my water pump and took out thermostat why are my spark plugs wet and the car wont start?
I hope you replaced your thermostat. Make sure everything is connected back correctly. Double-check each bolt. You need to clean off all old gasket material before applying the new gasket and part. Your car should still start even if you worked on the radiator and water pump, etc... Dry everything off real good and try again. Get it started and look for leaks.

Yeah, if your head gasket is blown that is a problem. The cylinder head is bolted to the engine block. If that gasket goes, you'll have lost of power and worse eventually. You may have cracked your cyclinder head. Fixing it is a big job best left to mechanics.

How do I change the water pump in my 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS?

Do you have to jack the motor up? Does the timing belt need to come off? Do any gears need to come off? Any help is greatly appreciated!
How do I change the water pump in my 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS?
Best answer is to spend $10-15 at auto parts store for a Chilton's manual for that car. I bought one for my puny beatup 1991 Geo Prizm, and it's helped keep it running up to 240K miles!! Best friend a mechanic could have.

Timing belt and water pump change?

I must change the timing belt of my car. I have been told that the water pump must be done too since it is right there. Due to the high price I want to postpone/skip the water pump until the next tune up. What happens if the water pump fails down the road? How long does a water pump last? 120K? My car has 60,000 miles on it. Thank you.
Timing belt and water pump change?
I always suggest at same time. Most timing belt jobs are 4-5 hour jobs and all of that has to be removed to replace the water pumpp, which could be in a week a month or a year (roll the dice) it doesn't usually take much if any additional labor to replace the pump when everything else is out of the way usually just the cost of the pump itself. if you wait and say a month later the water pump goes out you would have the expense of the pump AND ALL THE LABOR AGAIN.
Timing belt and water pump change?
The reason you are being told to change both at the same time is because the tear down is almost exactly the same to do both of those actions. It's highly recommended that you change both because you are probably gonna pay for 5 hours labour to change the timing belt then you are gonna pay for another 5 hours of labour when you take you car back to change the water pump, whereas had you simply changed the water pump at the same time it would have only added about 45 minutes of labour to the total labour...

Do both at the same time or don't bother doing any till you can afford both!
You don't have to renew the water pump. They mention it because it becomes easily accessible during the timing belt replacement. The extra cost should only be the cost of the water pump. So it's often sensible to include the water pump at the same time. If you do it at the next service it will cost you at least the same as you are paying now for the belt job.
There is no guarantee on how long the water pump will last, but normally 100,000 miles plus. But that is true of a timing belt too. The water pump has a weep hole at the bottom, visually check for corrosion or rust in that area. If you see some, could be a sign that it is ready to go soon. If not, then do the repairs that you can afford. But why the heck are you changing a timing belt at 60,000 miles.
    not a good idea

It would be dependent on engine, and also, more nd likely would recommend the timing chain setup to be replaced as well. Is not going to be very cheap at all.

Using pump to add water to aquarium during water changes?

I have a 180 litre aquarium which I do a 50% water change on every week. I have a siphon for sucking up dirt and extracting water from tank into a bucket. However I find it difficult when using buckets to refill the tank. Unfortunately I cant use the Python product.

I was wondering if it was possible to buy a water pump and connect large plastic tubing to it and then put that in the bucket and pump water back into the tank.
Using pump to add water to aquarium during water changes?
I suppose that would work but you need to use water conditioner before you put the water into the tank, otherwise the chemicals in the water (chloride etc) will change the water quality and water chemical levels in the tank.

in short - yes if you use water conditioner
Using pump to add water to aquarium during water changes?
You can do that, just buy a water pump with at least 500 gph, otherwise the pump may not be powerful enough to pump the water through the hose and/or you don't want it to take too long to pump. Also, buy a new garbage can to prepare your water. This will allow the water to age as well as give you a bigger %26quot;bucket%26quot; to pump from.

  • I just changed my water pump on my 97 grand am but the rad light is still on. Is this normal?

Never changed it before. Used advice I read online. I also know I am suppose to bleed the air do I leave it running to do so or just keep cap off.
I just changed my water pump on my 97 grand am but the rad light is still on. Is this normal?
Yes, let it idle until engine hot and thermostat fully open with your cabin heat set to max. Leave the radiator cap off and keep topping the coolant to overflowing. Park the vehicle on a steep hill with the engine facing up the hill so that the radiator is higher than the heater core.
I just changed my water pump on my 97 grand am but the rad light is still on. Is this normal?
Some systems have a bleeder valve (usually by or on the water outlet housing), and should be loosened to remove air. If not, and there is air trapped, you may have a thermostat problem or blockage in the passages. Typically, on a pressurized system, you should top off the radiator, install the cap and run the engine to temperature. Add to the coolant reservoir as needed. make sure the coolant temp sensor is functioning properly and the radiator fan engages when temperature climbs.
If possible look for coolant flow or feel the hoses to acertain that coolant is flowing.

The sensor is located on the bottom or, side of the radiator it senses the amount of coolant; not coolant; flow on most cars if the sensor or, wires are bad the light will not go out.

    hope this helps.
You dont bleed any cooling system with the car running. Loosen the 7mm bleeder, some of those cars have two, fill up the coolant tank and radiator. With the car OFF, and the cap off and bleeder open one turn, wait for a steady stream of fluid, it should only take a minute or so before you get the steady stream, close the bleeder screw and top off the coolant. After you do that if the light is still on, take a hammer or screwdriver and gently tap the sensor in the bottom of the coolant overflow tank, these sensors are very common to stick and trigger the light but bleed it as I said and you will be fine.
ok, that light will come on for two reasons. one the coolant level is low, if you just replaced the water pump, i hope that you replaced the lost antifreeze with good coolant, not the old stuff that you drained out. the second reason that the light will remain on is if you did not plug the sensor back in , i have seen it happen, or if the sensor itself has gone bad, due to corrosion and surface contamination.

How do you change a water pump in 1995 silverado 5.7 350?

Coolant is leaking at a good pace from the water pump. I need to replace it. Is this a job that I can do myself? What are the steps? Should I replace the lower hose and flush the radiator too?

Or would it be better to just take it to the mechanic? Whats a fair price for that?

    thanks i really appreciate it
How do you change a water pump in 1995 silverado 5.7 350?
Based on your questions I would say take it to a mechanic. Have the hoses replaced while you're at it. It's up to you about the flush but the coolant will get replaced in the process anyway. About $100. for quality parts add for labor.
How do you change a water pump in 1995 silverado 5.7 350?
I would say take it to a shop to have it done. This way everything can be done right. And as with the coolant it needs to be flushed every two years but use prestone anti freeze after the flush.if you go to a parts store and get the parts and anti freeze this way you'll have the parts that is needed for replacement at the shop you take it to.And while your there at the parts store pick up 2 gallons of anti freeze you'll need at least 1 and 1/2 or so gallons of it to refill the system and blend it with water as a top off.But make sure you don't get the 50/50 mix it is half water and half anti freeze.Anti freeze has a higher boiling point to help keep the engine from over heating. You also might want to replace the thremostat also with the same degree of one.Ask the parts store for one and your hoses top and bottom.hgm20002000@yahoo.com
If you have a decent tool box you can do it your self . step 1 remove the negative battery cable from the battery. Step 2 Get under the truck and find the drain cock to the radiator. Remove the radiator cap, then put a large pan under the drain cock and open it. Have some floor dry on hand if any spills on the drive way or in the garage floor. You don't want the family pet to even taste it. IT WILL KILL THEM!!! Step 3. remove the hose clamps from the radiator and the motor. when the coolant has drained, remove the upper hose First. then the lower. There may be a little fluid in it.Step 4. get another pan for transmission fluid. Disconnect the transmission lines from the radiator. If the Power steering lines also run to the radiator remove them last. Let the fluid drain from the lines. Step 5. Remove the fan shroud Top First. It is in 2 halves.top and bottom. There are 2 ten millimeter screws that hold the top half of the shroud to the radiator on each side. remove them. Then remove the top half of the shroud. Now for some work Carefully wiggle the bottom half out the bottom of the truck or the top. Then remove the radiator. Step 6. You will need special tools for this step ... A hammer and chisel. You need to tap the fan nut with the chisel , counter clockwise to remove the fan and fan clutch. It will take a little time and patience. Once you get the fan off, you are ready for Step 6. The bolts that hold on the water pump are either 10 or 12 mm. There may also be a %26quot;heater hose connected to the water pump. remove it. Then remove the water pump. Now TIPS ... Get a New Lifetime Warranty Water Punp.... Get New Radiator Hoses and Clamps. Get a New %26quot;No Fail%26quot; Thermostat. Have the radiator vatted and cleaned and pressure tested. Get a New Radiator Cap. Clean the radiator over flow bottle. Use a couple of empty milk jugs to pour the old antifreeze in. Take it to a salvage yard for disposal.. Everything goes back together in reverse order. I recommend %26quot;Ultra-blue%26quot; gasket sealer. Once you have everything back together, Before you fill the antifreeze, add a can of Prestone Water Pump Lube and Sealer. Then ad the antifreeze 50/50 mix. I prefer Prestone.. Good luck Merry Christmas. Any questions E-Mail me

i'm afraid it's not that easy. i'd recommend a chevy dealer do it for you. then the part will get a 1 year warranty if you use AC Delco from the dealership. can't get that kind of warranty with autozone in your driveway.
    heres a step by step

I need to get info on how to change thw water pump and timming belt on a 88 prelude si 2.0 engine?

what do i need to remove in order to replace the water pump on a 1988 honda prelude?
I need to get info on how to change thw water pump and timming belt on a 88 prelude si 2.0 engine?
FIRST find the timing mark on the balancer pulley and set it to top dead center, usually on a honda its the red mark or center mark on the pulley. The mark is on the very outer edge of the belt groove and there are usually 3 together on a honda. Carefully remove the balancer pulley, you will need a 17 mm socket and a 12 mm socket to remove the pulley. After you remove the pulley and belt you may find that the power steering pump needs to be removed from the bracket to give you room to work. You dont need to disconnect the hoses from it usually. then take the timing cover bolts off and remove the plastic timing cover. Best thing to do now is to have a Haynes manual to follow to continue because it will describe step by step how to properly time the motor and reset the belt tension. Those are VERY important so follow the instructions PRECISELY!

the timing belt and timing cover, try alldatadiy dot com, it will give you step by step instructions for shade trees.
If you buy from autozone they can print all the info out. or you could buy a repair manual for $ 20
Yeah get a Chilton's manual. They have pictures of every step. It's great.
remove the belt for the ac/alternator/power steering ( if there is power steering) the upper and lower radiator hoses, the pump has 4 bolts that hold it onto the block, it is a tight fit, so use caution and longsleeves

How do you change the water pump on a 93'Honda Civic EX?

water pump went bad in my civic, how do i change it out?
How do you change the water pump on a 93'Honda Civic EX?
They're not that hard. First drain the coolant. Then lift the car, take of the tire that is in front of the motor. Remove the motor mount at the front of the motor. Remove the crankshaft pulley, and continue to remove the timing cover. Spin the motor until the lines match up on both the camshaft pulley and the crankshaft pulley. Then, loosen the tensioner pulley, pull off the belt and then the water pump. Reverse removal process to install.

Sounds simple enough but its a 3 hour job.
How do you change the water pump on a 93'Honda Civic EX?
you take our water and put pumb back in with scisors
I'd advise, unless you've got a lot of experience working on timing belts to take it to a professional. You'll have to take the timing belt off to get to the water pump out. You'll need specific information to know where the timing marks go. I'd avoid the head ache and take it to a professional.

  • Anyone know how to take off the pulley for a water pump?

I have a 1989 Pontiac 6000 2.5Litre 4cylinder. Took off the serp belt to change the water pump. Took out almost all screws in water pump except the screw thats behind the pulley. You can not access this screw w/ pulley on. I have a pulley puller but the engine compartment is too small for it 2 fit. Also Any one know about the pulley tensioner because after I took off the belt it doesnt seem like the spring is working?
Anyone know how to take off the pulley for a water pump?
Apply a little heat to it ,and tap it lightly all the way around it.this should do it and about the tensoner, its bad replace it while you are there. If you need more room to work ,try loosening frt motor mount and raising engine.
Anyone know how to take off the pulley for a water pump?
It could just be boogered on there really good from corrosion. Have you tried PB Blaster Penetrating Catalyst? It is an AMAZING rust breaker, much better than WD-40 (which is just a lubicant).
you need to take off anthing in your way then use a tool a weel puller
try using a flat style puller like a steering wheel puller they don't need as much room as a three jaw pulley puller
You look at the new water pump as it my come with the pulley on it,Maybe?
pully dont have have tension belt wont work check again or replace while u r at it ps its old look for a allen set screw on pully shaft ???

Having water pump changed on my Xterra & looking at Vogue magazine in the waiting room. What percent is film?

Vogue appears to be nothing but a huge collection of advertisements. Wow! I had no idea you could stuff that many pictures into a fashion magazine. There must have been thousands of images...how many to you think were made using film?
Having water pump changed on my Xterra %26amp; looking at Vogue magazine in the waiting room. What percent is film?
It all depends on who was taking the original shots - there is no way to really tell otherwise.

The majority of fashion snappers have now gone over to digital but there are still quite a number who still use film.

Same with product shots - a lot of it will be done on large format which will still be film but those using mf will probably now be using digital - whichever is used the post processing will be digital these days.

Hiryuu - not strictly true. I know snappers who still shoot on film (myself included) sometimes. Sure the post processing is done after the film is scanned and digitised but the originals are still film.
Having water pump changed on my Xterra %26amp; looking at Vogue magazine in the waiting room. What percent is film?
none, everything in advertisement(especially mags) is digital and photoshoped now

I have a ticking in my 2003 Hyundai Elantra could it be the water pump?

I have a 2003 Hyundai Elantra. I just took it to the shop because I could hear a ticking sound in the engine. The place told me that they %26quot;think%26quot; that it could be the timing belt needs replaced and also when the timing belt is changed the water pump needs to be replaced as well. Any suggestions? They also quoted me about $450. Does this sound right?
I have a ticking in my 2003 Hyundai Elantra could it be the water pump?
no, thats more than what the car is worth...

push it to the junkyard and get a certified used car.

the time of the hyundai is over and more problems will come out of it if you keep it
I have a ticking in my 2003 Hyundai Elantra could it be the water pump?
i have the same thing on my protege 5 and when i pull over the cover i seen a bad idler pulley cost me around $20 but i do the job myself

if you are gona pay for it you have to take out the timming belt so the price is fair...
With out being able to hear the ticking it could be one of the hydralic lifters that operate the valves

Very little to worry about if is this Does it go away when you rev the engine up

News to me that the water pump need to be replaced when you do the cam belt
The timing belt can be causing this ticking if the belt is streching but there is still a chance the your valves will need to be adjusted, i'm curios as to where your from if your close I can do it alot cheaper than that and I'm a Hyundai certified mechanic if you want to email me Id be happy to save you some money and make some money in the process

Go to the parts store and buy a Haynes Manual... it will show you step by step how to take it apart....

My guess would be most of your time will be spent lying on the ground....
then buy a new one and get your self some tools and a repair manual at autoparts store not much to it once you see what it looks like you start removing parts that are in way til you can take it off clean the old gasket off well and but some blue selicone put on new gasket and put on new pump tighten it put back on all the parts you remove fill radiator start check for leaks should be able to do it on the weekend about three to four hours or lless... any of these will help all about the same as the other but it will give you a better ideal of how to do it and your sure to learn more about your car so doing it would be best not only you learn but you save money too... not hard to replace most parts hard part is knowing what is wrong to replace it so you got the hard part done knowing what is wrong
big,big job. get a chilton or haynes repair manual, you could order one at your local parts store if they don't have one in stock. make sure you have all the tools you need..

How do i keep the water pump pulley from turning when changing a fan clutch on a 2000 dodge dakota?
put the old belt around the pulley and cinch it up tight with a pair of vice grips. this will give you a grip on the pulley without damaging it. however it will probably ruin the belt so you will need to replace it anyway. belts are cheaper than special tools.
I think you'll find assorted holes or grooves in that pulley that you can put a ratchet through and a socket so you can hold the pulley with a ratchet as you try getting at the fan clutch.Even if a bolt loosens some on the water pump pulley it can give you the leverage and you can always re-tighten it later.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way I always buy a service manual like Haynes for any car I buy and I find they can come in very handy at times like this especially.
Also you could try a very large pair of channel locks to hold the pulley.

And put the wrench on the fan clutch nut and give the wrench a quick whack with a rubber mallet to shock it and loosen the fan clutch.

Autozone does rent a holding tool and wrench

    Pep boys sells the tool..

1993 Pontiac 2.3 changed water pump, now no start?

I changed the water pump on a 2.3 liter Pontiac engine, now it cranks but won't start. Timing gears were locked in place during work, so timing is probably OK. How can I check the alignment of the timing gears to verify correct timing?
1993 Pontiac 2.3 changed water pump, now no start?
If the timing gears were locked in place and you did not remove them, then that is not your problem.

Retrace your steps and see if you knocked a wire off or maybe you forgot to reconnect the crank angle sensor during reassembly.

    I have a '92 w/2.3, and I've changed the water pump...trying

to remember what is close by.

Maybe you unplugged the injector wiring harness?

Also check the wiring going to the ignition module (under

the aluminum cover)...may have pulled out.
Sounds like it hydralocked on you. For what reason did you originally change the pump? Overheating? Possible Coolant loss? These engines have had many coolant related problems historically, and often can be attributed to cracked blocks and cylinder head failures. This may have been the original problem.
you don't mess with your timing belt? if you do so you have to put on time
I gaurantee you that the timing is off..trust me..when you released the tensioner it may have jumped a tooth or two..i have a 94 grand am i just did a water pump on..remember all the gears..crank and camshaft(s) dots have to be lined up perfectly..no room for error.
only a auto shop can tell you i am pontiac master tech and the only way to check for timeng alignment is to remove cover from passenger side of engine and check all marks.if the car was running when you carried to have water pump installed it is a problem with the timeing being out of alignment i have done many many of these and the job takes 8 hours to do i that is to but a water pump on this car .its is very easy to get out of alignment and even harder to correct. but if car was not running before installing water pump the problem could be ignition module, with is about 400 to 500 hundred.fuel pump 300.00 or crank sensor these are the only things that will stop car from running other than no gas. this is one of the hardest engines nown to work on so always carry to a pontiac dealer normal auto shops are a wast of time and money and generaly only make things worst. hope this helps.

I have a 1995 90hp johnson outboard i changed the water pump but i have no water comming out of the motor why?

I now that even if the water pump is out it will still trickle but I have nothing.
I have a 1995 90hp johnson outboard i changed the water pump but i have no water comming out of the motor why?
Get a thin piece of wire and stick it up in the telltale discharge, to dislodge whatever insects might have nested up in there.

If that doesn't do the trick, drop the lower again, make sure your impeller key is in the keyway and the housing gasket is seated correctly.

There should be a water tube guide, a plastic tube maybe a couple-three inches long, that slides on top of the pump discharge, which the water tube has to go into the guide when you put the lower unit back on.

If all that checks out, you might have some blockage in the water jacket, especially if your pump failed completely it might have liberated some impeller fragments. You'll have to take the thermostat covers off, somthing might have lodged in there.

Sorry there's no easy answer -- you need to see a strong discharge coming out the telltale anytime the motor's running.
I have a 1995 90hp johnson outboard i changed the water pump but i have no water comming out of the motor why?
The most common failure on the %26quot;new pump %26quot; installation is to have the impeller drive key slip down the water in let slot as you put the pump together.

If you turned the main shaft while you positioned the pump housing and the impeller turned- that's not it. You probably have some old impeller debris up the tube.

If that's not it, the water tube going to the power head from the pump body missed the pump. If that's not it make sure you have the engine deep enough in the water to get water to the pump ie; below the pump body.

edit; if the pump is out,,, you get nothing----NEVER-- run with out the pump, what you are seeing is residual water being forced from little cavities as the engine reaches critical temps.
I have an old 70hp Johnson and when I changed the waterpump, I had to be sure the fins on the impeller were positioned so they would pump in a clockwise direction once installed. May want to take a good look at your intake, too, and inspect it for blockages.

What is the cost of a timing belt and water pump change on a 1998 Honda Accord Ex @ 135,000 miles?

I plan on having this within a wk, I dont expect to be going to a dealership for the work. At a reg mechanic's shop what's the total typical cost of this procedure on aforementioned vehicle?
What is the cost of a timing belt and water pump change on a 1998 Honda Accord Ex @ 135,000 miles?
In California where the labor rates are the highest around the Honda dealers typically have a package price of between $399 and $449 for the 4 cylinder and $499 to $549 for for the six cylinder. The package price includes the timing belt, water pump, coolant and accessory drive belts for the air conditioning and alternator. If the cam seals are leaking (4 cylinder only) they are additional (about $100 more). If the seals aren't leaking most dealers don't recommend changing them.

Honda prices are competitive with the aftermarket with the package. independent shops will just change the belt if you want to save money; most honda dealers won't just do a belt because the useful life of the water pump, coolant and the other drive belts is about the same as the timing belt and quite honestly they don't want to see you come back a few months after replacing just a belt with a leaking water pump because then you have to pay all the labor again.

    hope that answers your question
What is the cost of a timing belt and water pump change on a 1998 Honda Accord Ex @ 135,000 miles?
Miles have little to do with it. Replacement time can be up to 2.5 hours. Parts and labor are dealer specific. Depends on where you take it to. If you can get the part cheaper than a dealer, and they might install it for you, save you some money. Typically if that happens, they will only warranty their labor, not the part. But you will have a manfucatures warranty on the part itself....

    Good luck.
If you perform a 60k interval service, dealerships are currently about 100-125 an hr. so at that rate about 600$ to $800. the belt and pump only may run $300-$400.depends on hrly rate. approx.4hrs labor for belt/pump only.choose a good shop or it could cost you an engine if done incorrectly!

how much would they charge me to change a water pump on my 1999 cadillac deville
Where is the water pump located on a 1999 cadillac deville?
They always change the water pump and timing belt together while the engine is apart. Your 1999 is probably due for both things if they have not been done. I just had mine done on a Toyota Camry. It cost a thousand dollars. Remember that these two things NEED to be changed every so often..if either the water pump, or timing belt go while you are driving..your car will die right there on the freeway...even if you are going 80 MPH.

2 or 3 hours of labor

depends on the shops labor rate

if it is a northstar it is on the drivers front of the engine by the rad hose (inside the crossoverpipe)

or if it is the older engine it is on the pass side side by the drive belt (thin and long)

2000 Chevy Malibu over heating after water pump change. How do I know that its NOT the head gasket?

2000 Chevy Malibu over heating after water pump change. How do I know that its NOT the head gasket?
Previous answer is correct, check to see if there is any oil mix in with the antifreeze
2000 Chevy Malibu over heating after water pump change. How do I know that its NOT the head gasket?
oil in the water or water in the oil is a bad sign
check the oil for a chocolate milk color
    three head gasket syptoms

    1. white smoke out of exhaust

    2. oil level increase, check dipstick for overfill and chocolate brown in color.

    3. Hard cranking , slow starting
if u don't c the oil in water-water in oil thing - try a pressure tester on the radiator-with it running, c if it KEEPS building pressure.or check tailpipe 4 continuous water vapor - OR pressure test the radiator %26amp; if the pressure goes down in 2 the cylinder - that's where its blown.OR check the radiator with it running %26amp; C if there are bubbles that keep coming up

    lookin down in the rad.
A head gasket problem will more then likely cause the engine to miss. or a possible white smoke from the exhaust pipe. more info would be needed, like if the cooling fan is coming on, radiator is in good shape, radiator cap is functioning properly, etc. A thermostat that failed could be the cause of overheating if you are not experiencing other things also.
Everyone sees the forest but not the trees, hahaha

Yes, like they said above, basically check the OIL dipstick and see if you see any condensation or white stuff in the oil. This is the water mixing with the oil.

If it still overheats and no indication of oil, OR water leaks, then your radiator core is clugged up somehow. Or if you have fans they may not be working? I have a 1995 ford escort. changed the water pump and thermostat, but still over heats?

I changed the thermostat and the water pump on my 1995 escort 1.9 liter. It is still overheating, but only part of the time. I don't know what else it could be. I am open for any ideas. I thought about flushing the radiator, but didn't know if that would help. The heater blows hot, so I don't think it could have to do with the heater core. Please some one let me know..
I have a 1995 ford escort. changed the water pump and thermostat, but still over heats?
Flushing it can never hurt. Also make sure the fan is working like it's supposed too.One other thing to check is the hoses.Get the engine hot then look at the hoses and make sure none of them are collapsing.Rev the engine too while your looking at them and make sure they still look ok.Sometimes an old radiator hose will do that and drive you crazy trying to diagnose an overheating problem. If the fan isn't working right you could have a relay or temperature sensor going bad.
I have a 1995 ford escort. changed the water pump and thermostat, but still over heats?
are the fans chugging away while it is overheating??
I would flush the radiator and see how dirty it really is.

Also maybe one of your hoses could be partially blocked.

How can you tell it is overheating, could it be a bad temperature sensor or overheat switch? ie only an indication problem
    Check transmission for slippage.

Change the rad cap to ensure it is working and not building up pressure before evacuation into the coolant bottle.

If you're lucky without any major problems, just a change of coolant (and your flush) will help, because you might be full of muck, and mixed brands of anti-freeze.
Flush the radiator and the block.

Make sure you run it good when you do this.

Especially the block, make up a fitting so it has high pressure.

once it's all together be sure to check for collapsing hoses.
Well I'd try for sure to make sure the fan is working , plus I'd flush the rad especially if it's not been flushed in some time , plus I'd check the antifreeze mixture with a antifreeze tester.

Basically the fan should engage once the car is sitting idling for about 5 Min's or so , plus the antifreeze can wear out after a few yrs and that could cause the overheating problem or gunk build up in the rad.Be sure not to mix the antifreeze and water more then 50/50 , plus I'd try using a flush kit that you can buy yourself cheap.

You've not really said how and when it's overheating but basically if overheating while idling then usually the fan or fan sensor or relay is faulty or it's the wrong antifreeze mixture. If it's over heating once driven on hwy then more then likely the water pump is faulty , plus if it only over heats when the A/C is on then probably a fan is faulty or it's fan related.

Hope that helps and best of luck.

2000 grandam keep boiling out of overflow have changed water pump therm rad heat core temp gaugedont raise?
Sounds like you may have a head gasket allowing compression from the cylinders to leak in to a water jacket thus giving you compression from the motor in you water system. This is why it blows out the water before the temperature comes up.

Is it necessary to go to the dealer to have timing belt and water pump changed?

Hi I have a 2000 Toyota 4 Runner. It sounds like the timing belt needs to be changed. I am willing to spend some money to keep it, but since it is kind of old, I don't want to spend too much.

My questions is: is it really necessary to go to a dealer to do it, or can any smaller shops handle the job? The dealers usually charge more.
Is it necessary to go to the dealer to have timing belt and water pump changed?
Any qualified independent shop should be able to handle this job. Ask your friends for a recommendation of honest competent mechanics. Good luck.
Is it necessary to go to the dealer to have timing belt and water pump changed?
Any auto shop can handle that. That sort of thing is their bread and butter.
no you don't need too take it to a dealer any good machanic can do it

it not that hard of a job

i've even done it and i'm not a machanic
What or who told you your timing belt needs to replaced. Its a good thing to change it depending on the miles you've got. A certified mechanic would be good enough to replace these parts. Benefit from dealer would be it could be done faster and they would have the parts on hand. Bad thing about dealer is they're more expensive.
If you have a 3.4 Liter V6 engine, it's definitely an %26quot;interference%26quot; type engine that must have it's timing belt changed every 90,000 miles to prevent damage ($$$) to the engine if the belt breaks. The timing belt also drives the water pump, so the recommended service is to replace the belt, pump, idler and tensioner pulleys for a total dealer cost of about $850. You can compare that to a good independent shop in your neighborhood you find using the professional shop link below:

    http://www.gates.com/brochure.cfm?brochu鈥?/a>
Those are both pretty simple repairs. I change my own timing belts and water pumps. So I am sure any shop can handle them. Where I live, a mechanic has to be certified to charge someone to work on their car. A dealer mechanic certification is no different than any other mechanics certification.
a small time shop would probably be able to do it for you and alot cheaper too, unlesss you can do it yourself.
Ask around for a reputable place to take it to. There are many places that don't work on 4 Runners. You could also call around for quotes.

  • How do you change out a water pump for a 96 z24 cavaliar?

Need to know how difficult it is to change out the water pump on a z24 chevy Cavaliar. Do I need special tools etc. Can I do it from the top or do you have to get underneath the car.
How do you change out a water pump for a 96 z24 cavaliar?
Here are the instructions, it really doesn't require any special tools but it is not an easy pump to change, I would recomend having a pro do the job. The pump on your engine is run from the timing chain not a belt making replacement quite difficult. It will require work from the top and bottom of the car, GM recomends using a car lift. If you decide to try this do yourself a favor and get your hands on a service manual. To give you an idea of the complexity of this job, Mitchell labor time guide allows 5.6 hours for an expierenced tech to replace your water pump. REMOVAL

Talk about conflicting answers ~~ I would suggest you go to an auto supply and purchase a repair manual fot your car, about $20, but if you are going to diy you might as well invest in the needed equipment. It's not a bad job if you have the correct info.
Anyone change a water pump on a 02 Rendevous?
2 to 5 hours, its a pain in the bum, especially if you dont have the right tools, big pain, probly just end up costing you the 500 bucks to get a mechanic to unscrew your car
It's easy if it's a 3.4 Liter engine , thats what should be in there.

I could probally change it in like 40 min.

If you have minimal experience with repairs like this bring it in should be like 75$, might want to get a coolant flush done also.

Where is the water pump located on a 2000 Chevy Impala?
Do you have the 3.4 or the 3.8? Oh well. No one bothers to give that sort of vital information on here... Don't forget to buy RTV when you go buy the pump.

    Anyway, the 3.4:

    To Remove:

    Drain the cooling system.

Remove the drive belt guard if equipped.

Loosen the water pump pulley bolts.

    Remove or disconnect the following:

    Drive belt.

Water pump pulley bolts and pulley.

Water pump bolts, pump and gasket.

Clean the water pump mating surfaces.

    To Install:

    Install or connect the following:

    Water pump gasket and pump.

Water pump bolts. Tighten the water pump bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.)

Water pump pulley and bolt until snug.

    Drive belt.

Tighten the water pump pulley bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. Lbs.).

If removed, install the drive belt guard.

    Fill the cooling system.

    Inspect for leaks.

    For the 3.8:

    To Remove:

    Drain the cooling system.

Loosen the water pump pulley bolts.

    Remove or disconnect the following:

    Drive belt.

    Water pump pulley bolts.

    Water pump pulley.

    Power steering pump and reposition.

    Water pump bolts.

    Water pump.

    Water pump gasket.

Clean and inspect the water pump mating surfaces.

    To Install:

    Install or connect the following:

    Water pump gasket.

Water pump. Tighten the long water pump bolts to 34 Nm (25 ft. Lbs.) Tighten the short water pump bolts to 22 Nm (16 ft. Lbs.)

    Water pump pulley.

Water pump pulley bolts. Tighten the bolts to 13 Nm (115 inch lbs.)

    Power steering pump.

    Drive belt.

    Fill the cooling system.

You're lookin' at eight bolts on the pump in most vehicles your make/model.

if you want to do this on your own' go to your nearest auto parts store and purchase a repair manual specific to your car.

read first before you attempt to perform the job. or you can have someone you trust to assist you. repair manuals usually range in price from 15.00-up.good luck ' i hope this helps.
I know the part is about 60 bucks but the labor is around 3 to 4 hundred. Well once half of whats under the hood in on your front lawn you will understand why they charge so much to replace it.

I need help with installing a water pump on my Ford F150 pickup truck?

I have a 1990 Ford F150 pickup truck and I need some help with the installation of a water pump. The engine is a 4.9 straight 6 cylinder. Can anyone tell me how to change the water pump and how hard is it to do.. Any help would be appreciated..

here is a website that will help you.
I need help with installing a water pump on my Ford F150 pickup truck?
You might want to take the fan off to make it much easier to work on. I don't think it's hard, just time consuming. Line the bolts up as you take them off that way you know how they go back on. Make sure you get all of the old gasket off and use a good tacky adhesive to put the new gasket on.
Get a manual from local parts store for truck. About $15.00.
You will need to remove the fan first I think the bolt are on the inside they are a pain but it can be don , Remove belts and R/R water pump clean surface with putty knife or small wire brush put gasket on pump with permeates both sides and install good luck hope this helps.
Get yourself a Haynes or Chilton repair manual at Autozone, Pep boys, etc.

Make sure you clean the old gasket material completely off the block before you mount the new pump. If not, you'll leak and have to do it all over again.
if you are going to get a manual get a Chilton manual they are better. Haynes has bought Chilton but you can still get Chilton's manuals through Napa auto parts stores

Mechanics labor rate to change water pump = '98 chevy cavalier?

What does the book say on how long it takes to change a water pump in a 1998 chevy cavalier. my mechanic says 7 hours....can that be right?
Mechanics labor rate to change water pump = '98 chevy cavalier?
its not hard to do it your self 7 hours sound to long for water pump see if you can get a fixed rate
Mechanics labor rate to change water pump = '98 chevy cavalier?
98 cavalier water pump 7 hours this means that i assume your car has a 2.3 or 2.4 litre engine and if that is the case, the water pump is located on the back side of the engine below the exhaust manifold and is driven by the timing chain, thus meaning that the whole front cover of the motor has to come apart along with the manifold to remove the pump, this is a very extensive repair and i believe that time is about what is given for flat rate in the labor manuals ,so from experience and to his credit i would say he is being honest with you and not trying to rip you off, your mechanic will probably be willing to show you where the pump is and what needs to be done for the repair....but if your car has a 3.1 or3.4 get your car out of there

Can not changing the anti-freeze often make your water pump fail?

I've heard that it can't, it's more of a bearing failure.
Can not changing the anti-freeze often make your water pump fail?
Anti-freeze is the most misunderstood thing that is put into an automobile. Anti-freeze is not only to keep your auto from freezing in the winter, but to keep it from boiling over in the summer. It also keeps the bearing in the water pump lubricated and helps corrosion to a minimum in you radiator and your water pump. If you add a 50/50 mixture of anti freeze to your over flow bottle ever time you are low you will not have any problems. Auto Parts Manager 9 1/2 years.
Can not changing the anti-freeze often make your water pump fail?
not usually water pumps only pump water %26amp; don't know the difference. age could have done it if didn't freeze
As the anti-freeze ages it starts to break down and not do the job of preventing freezing and overheating.

If you change and back flush yearly you should not have any problems for years; but skipping a year now and then is enough to cause problems.

My truck is 18 years old and in the past i have neglected the antifreeze a few times and it has cost me two radiators and a water pump. I tend to think that radiators are thinner than they used to be because of the cost of copper.

Many are partially made with plastic and I don't think they last as long.
Keep in mind that anti-freeze is a corrosive. Over time if the nowcools, or DCA levels are not maintained in the coolant,, depending on age of the vehicle,, the coolant can brake down the pump fins and thin them.In turn it will deminish coolant flow and circulation. iVE SEEN IT ON VEHICLES OVER 15 YEARS OLD.

How do you change a water pump on a 99 chevy malibu?

my girl's car keeps over heating.coolant comes out of over flow i don't know where the water pump is located?i think it might be the thermostat and all the electric fans are working.how can i know please help.
How do you change a water pump on a 99 chevy malibu?
overflowing can be caused by over filling. the thermostat might be closed.but i doubt its the water pump, and if your asking to replace one let me tell you that you probably cant. so look at the thermostat. check your coolant levels. and be sure that there is a proper mixture of antifreeze. and right amount of water if there is any of course... goodluck...max
How do you change a water pump on a 99 chevy malibu?
NEVER replace any part 'till you KNOW the problem. The water pump or thermostat is not the problem. Your radiator is plugged and you need the services of a RADIATOR SHOP. If you know how you can remove it and take it in thus saving some bucks. You can NOT flush it or do anything yourself to correct the problem. If you drive it in the shop will check it for you and verify my diagnosis.
get yourself a repair manual. If it is the 2.4L, you are in for a nightmare if it is indeed the waterpump. It's down underneath the back of the motor. Most garages get about $600 for this job and hate it. If it is the 3.1, water pump is a snap cause it;s right on top in front. Might be a thermostat, Hope so, but he radiators have a habit of going bad on them. If you know of someone who has a thermal gun, it's easy to tell if the radiator is plugged.

  • Should i change the water pump with the timing belt?

i have changed my timing belt last week with all the tensioners but not the water pump.

my car has done 32000 mile and it is 5 years old (renault megane 2003 1.6)

the belt on this car should be changed each 72000 miles or 5 year and i decide to change it because it was due .

would u think that water pump would still work or soon it will become faulty?
Should i change the water pump with the timing belt?
Well, if you have the money go ahead...I am sure the pump would be a bit easier to replace with the belt off...but honestly there is no need. The water pump should easily last over 100,000 miles if you keep your antifreeze clean and you will be due for a new belt when the pump goes out anyway. Good luck with the belt change and have a good one!
Should i change the water pump with the timing belt?
change it just to be safe
If you are already going to have it tore down that far, you might as well while you are at it. Otherwise, you'll have to strip the thing down to change it later.
water pumps usually last for awhile 85,000 plus.. i have a 99 accord with 155,000 and still on the same factory water pump with no problems but then again i usually put about 600 miles a month

You can pretty much do it yourself , Auto zone has your parts ,which you can get the prices and they have the repair manual for your car. you will need the vin # to determine the cubic inch or liter size and the year made . It has a wealth of info including replacement of water pump and timing belt.

Do I need new belt pulleys for water pump?

I am changing my water pump and cambelt but went to order the water pump but it says on the product description- excludes belt pulleys, are the belt pulleys needed? can I order seperately, if so where from?

    Thanks!
Do I need new belt pulleys for water pump?
It depends on the make of your car which, you have not given.
Do I need new belt pulleys for water pump?
This suggests that you can remove the pulley from the old pump and put it on the new one. That would be unusual I feel and so you need to check this.

I am wondering if you have got this confused with the cam belt order and they are talking about the cam belt idlers/tensioner which also need to be changed.

You have not given the car make, model or engine type so it will be impossible to be more specific
you should be able to pull the old pulley off the old water pump, you might need a special tool for it dodge/chrysler is infamous for this set- up, does your new water pump have threads where the pulley should go? and if you should require a new pulley any way, you can get it from a new car dealer parts counter for your make of vehicle.
it's normal workshop practise to fit a kit which includes idler pulleys and other relevant parts when fitting a cam-belt, some main agents, like alfa romeo, change water-pumps at the same time to avoid belt failure due to a pump seizing.
they can be ordered separately at most local motor factors

How can i loose a rusty and tight screw from the water pump?

i was changing the water pump of my ford van econoline e 150 and the las screw is very tight and rusty and i have try to loose it but i can.t can some body help me. its there any tipe of tool to get it out
How can i loose a rusty and tight screw from the water pump?
try rusty unsticker along with pin tappin the head of bolt the shock some times helps break loose galled ones if no help then it gets bad, if wearing off ,drop to metric ,tap on , if snaps remove housing try good set vice grips if fails its drill and tap time
How can i loose a rusty and tight screw from the water pump?
wd 40 and a bigger wrench really if you can tap it with a hammer give bolt head a tap or two and try again might even try some heat from a torch
wd-40 spray available at hardware or walmart.buy a metric socket set or combo standard/metric socket set use that email me with any questions.
there is a product very similar to wd-40, but works much better, and has never failed me. its called %26quot;PB Blaster%26quot; and should be at any of your local parts stores. i know for sure that Napa and shucks carry it.

also, sometimes you can get a bolt to turn in slightly when it won't back out. you should only try this as a last resort before drilling the bolt out. try to turn the bolt like you are tightening it, but not too far. you don't want it to break or strip. if it moves in a little it will probably break up the rust a little and make it a lot easier to back out.
wd 40 or easing oil, you could try a little heat if you have a gas welder to hand, plenty of patiance dont snap it, then you are in the doodoo
i cant think of the name right off the top of my head. but if you go into like shucks or auto zone, they have this loosening agent. you let it set over night and it eats away at the rust and grim making it easier to remove.

hopefully you don't brake the bolt.

those vans are a hassle to work on.

    good luck
Penetrant as mentioned above but also with some heat. If you just force it it will break off.
First use a good penetrating oil. Liquid Wrench is very good. then lightly tap on the screw just enough to set up a viberation. Don't use a long handle wrench, use a short handle. The long handle has too much spring in it, and all the energy is used up in the spring action handle.. sometimes it helps to try to tighten it first, just enough to crack the corossion. One tap with a hammer usually does it. If this doesn't work, use an impact wrench. If you're working on cars, your friends are probably doing the same thing. One of them probably has one that you can borrow.
WD 40, PB Blaster, or any penetrating catalyst, spray it over, let it sit 5-10 minutes, to work on rust....spray more, wait 5 minutes, try it.. use the exact wrench so u do not damge the head of screw....those screws u can damage the head easily...Try to use a pipe as an extension for the wrench.... and keep it tensioned in the proper position...Eventually Wd 40, will break off the rust...Use more penetrating catalist, if is tight works little by little......

    If....does not work....torch it....

Ps: if u damaged the head there's an irwing socket that u can put it over the screw, as u try to unscrew it, will tighten on the bolt....If u break the ,....U have to drill it, with a smaller drill bit but have to watch out, do not damage the threds.. use a small screw go soft, than heat up the bolt and little by little beark it off
try spraying it with pb blaster and work it back and forth until it comes. this works sometimes too. try to tighten it some and then loosen it.

How do you change the water pump impeller on a Mariner 8 hp outboard motor?

I have separated the Mariner 8 hp lower unit from the upper unit , taken apart the water pump, replaced the impeller and pusher the lower unit up on to the upper unit. It guides on fine until the last inch. It feels like the drive shaft is not alligning with the engine drive acceptor socket. The shift linkage appears and feels to be in place. The exhaust down tube feels like it is lined up. I tried turning the prop to rotate the drive shaft but it wont go together that last inch. Can some one help ????
How do you change the water pump impeller on a Mariner 8 hp outboard motor?
you may have to put the lower unit in fwd gear so as you are pushing up you can move the prop and the drive shaft at the same time to aid in aligning the splines.
How do you change the water pump impeller on a Mariner 8 hp outboard motor?
Ensure the %26quot;male%26quot; notch is inline with the %26quot;female%26quot; notch?
okay..listen up, first you need to make sure you have removed the internal rotation drive modulator from the outer expulsion shaft. once you have done that you can safely align the exterior drive acceptor socket. if you put too much torque on the alternating drive train adaptor, you will snap the linkage and possibly damage your fuel cell resistors.

thanks for letting me waste 30 seconds of your times cause I really have no clue. good luck, though...I would take it to a boat shop and have them do it.

    might be your best bet
    G'Day Sailinguy,

I have done water pumps on a few different brands of outboard motors, not a Mariner though, but they are all basically the same. The first and most important thing to observe is the water tube is correctly mated to the power head or you will damage the motor through overheating. Make sure the gear shift is in a position that makes the linkage at it's lowest point in the leg, so that it can be connected and tightened later. Ensure the gear box is in the matching position, this is usually in the forward position. If the motor is still on the boat, tilt it up to the maximum position as it makes replacing the gear box assembly a bit easier. Slide the assembly into the leg and keep checking all is going where it is supposed to be going.

Once the drive shaft is starting to engage the crank spline do not twist the gear box, instead rotate the propeller clockwise and anti-clock wise through about a 1/4 turn, as you continue to GENTLEY push the gear box, until it engages and slides home. Insert a bolt hand tight and relax, put the rest of the bolts in and tighten in sequence so as not to stress the casing and possibly fracture it, tighten to the required torque and your done.

IMPORTANT NOTE:- DO NOT USE THE BOLTS TO %26quot;PULL%26quot; THE GEAR BOX HOME. This may damage the spline if it not lined up correctly or strip the thread in the casing. Also if you have cleaned off all of the grease it would be wise to re-grease the spline with the recommended marine grease. I hope this is of some help.

Buy a http://www.haynes.com manual for your car and see how hard it looks. Here's how it is done on a small block rear wheel drive car:

Go to your local library. There would be a manual where you can use to make copies of how and where the water pump is on your car. Go home and go at it.

on the older step vans ..the radiator has to be removed....unless you can do it from the bottom...and most of the time its just not worth it...it shows in my labor book at 4.8 hours

How hard to change water pump in '91 taurus sho?

On a scale of 1 - 10 difficult, I would give this a 5, I changed my water pump in my Taurus in 3 hrs, I'll give you an idea at whats in store, 1. disconnect battery and battery tray and remove them, 2. drain the cooling system an remove the accessory drive belts, 3. remove bolts retaining the air conditioning and alternator idler pulley and bracket assembly, 4. disconnect electrical connection from ignition module and ground strap, 5. loosen the clamps on the upper intake connector tube, remove the retaining bolts remove connector tube, 6. raise the vehicle and remove right wheel and tire assembly, 7. remove the splash shield, 8. remove the upper timing belt cover, crankshaft pulley and lower timing belt cover, 9. remove the bolts from the center timing belt cover and set it aside, 10. remove the water pump bolts and water pump, please don't let all of this scare you, just put your mind to it and before you know it your back on the road.

Unless you're a mechanic with lots of tools, it's an all day job. Pay the $200 for a job done right and you'll have a warranty. You can't mess around with the cooling system, it can make your car worthless in a heartbeat.

Book time is 4.2 hours. Its not that bad of a change. The only thing you will need beyond regular hand tools is a puller for the crankshaft dampener. If your not a mechanic expect to use up most of an afternoon doing the job. But it is doable by a shade tree mechanic.

How do you change the water pump in a buick regal 97?

My dad said he doesnt know how to open the power stareing pully, becuase its infront of the water pump. Any one know how? thanks
How do you change the water pump in a buick regal 97?
I've found that chilton and haynes books are generally too vauge to do much good, however they are still nice to have handy. I prefer factory service manuals that can be found online for fairly cheap.

As for the PS pulley, there should be a couple bolts (13mm, I believe) that hold the whole assembly to the motor. DO NOT remove the fluid lines as the whole system will need to be bled if you do. After you get the bolts off (accessible by the service hole in the puley itself, you have to remove the belt and spin the pulley by hand until the hole is lined up with the bolt), the whole assembly should come free.

    what engine does it have?
Why don't you go to the auto parts store and buy a Chilton's manual, that way you can see the pictures and if you have any more problems you can look in your manual.they only cost about twenty bucks.Ive had one for just about every car Ive owned. They have saved me thousands of dollars in repair bills.Good luck.
I had one of them, it was an 89 or something, good car. Look at a Haynes or Chiltons manual. They have photopraghs and stuff. Its basic mechanics. Good cars.

    Look at Edmunds.

    I guess it is a 4dr Automatic

    Vehicle: 1997 Buick Regal

    Summary:

SOME VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO VIN BREAKPOINT 1F136536 MAY EXHIBIT INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP / SERVICE ENGINE SOON INDICATOR ILLUMINATION; ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATION; STALL / NO START CONDITION; VARIOUS EL ( NHTSA ITEM NUMBER - 10005145 )

That is was a problem with them, but look at a haynes or Chiltons.
If the power steering pump pulley is pressed on and not bolted on (your dad will probably know what I'm talking about), go to an auto parts store like Autozone (it's free there. You pay for it and then when you bring it back they give you all your money back)) and rent a power steering pump pulley puller (no I'm not joking). Then your dad can get to the bolts and move the power steering out of the way. Most new GM power steering units are like that and it's pretty easy to get off. I've done it lots of times. You don't even really need a book for this job. Here's a link to the tool your dad needs.
