If you moved either the camshaft or the crankshaft while the belt was off the engine is out of time. That will mean tearing it back apart and realigning them.Make sure it's not a 180 degrees out.

Valve timing is off?

Hopefully, you didn't damage the intake valves with the piston hitting them.

Take it back apart and double check your pulley timing marks at TDC compression #1.
If you want, I'll send you the correct procedure with pictures, just click on my picture and e-mail me your e-mail address.
The motor is probably the 420a motor that we also have in our older Eclipse vehicles. When the crankshaft pulley is set to TDC and the camshaft gear timing marks are facing each other, the intake cam gear mark is at 3 o'clock and the exhaust cam gear mark is at 9 o'clock, it is easy to be off a tooth. The motor needs to be jacked up so that you can see the cam gear marks dead on. There is a raised mark on the back timing cover, behind the cam gears. You should use a small stiff wire to touch the raised mark while looking to see if the cam gear marks are higher or lower than the wire touching the mark on the back cover. I've been off a couple of times as well as other techs in the shop. It's not an easy timing mark setup to deal with.

If you are off more than 2 teeth you may have bent the intake valves.
