I just recently bought an 2001 Audi A4 2.8 AWD and he has receipts for changing the timing belt and he said he changed the water pump but cant find the receipt for it, is there anyway I can tell if it has been changed it has 99,000 miles
How can I tell if the water pump has been changed?
typically if you look at the water pump,,you can spot the new gasket around the edge of the water pump,,the bolts are clean and shiny from being removed/replaced

go out to the car and take the belt off the water pump. then try try to spin the water pump with your hand if you are able to spin it and it keeps spinning its no good. if you try to spin it and it stops right away its fine.
look at the water pump if it has a different color (less dirt) than the rest of the engine it means its been taken apart, put a new one OR they just clean the old one and put it back again.
that's the only way of telling if it has been change without taking it apart you self.
yeah with 99,000 miles if the pump wasnt changed you will see an aged look where the pump meets the engine and old crud where the hose connects to it.
