What would i have to worry about when changing a water pump on a crysler concord?
I'm having the same problem on my Concord!!!!!!! good question.
What would i have to worry about when changing a water pump on a crysler concord?
I have never done one on a car like that. I am old school, and must say, worry only if you try to get at things with out proper removal of other components, so you can do the origional job correctly.
make sure you put the proper sealant recommended on the seal
If it's a 3.5L, you'll have to worry about finding it. Then you'll have to worry about removing and installing the timing belt. It's not a really easy job on the 3.5.
You can do it yourself 1st get a manual on that car it cost about $10-$14. but it will pay for it self.
2nd when you start then make a card board template of the front of the engine after you get all the pullyes out of the way. the water pump my be a unit that sets off to the side like the alternator or A/C. You can tell by following the lower radiator hose to the pump. if the hose connects into the engine block then the pump is behind all the pulleys and runs off of the timing chain. now this is where the template comes in because of how the pulley mounts to the engine block. There may be a plate that holds this together and after removing it you can see the timing chain and water pump. you may have to remove the chain before the pump and if so then you will need to realign the timing marks after the new pump is on. this is very critical if you have the duel overhead cam engine (DHOC). now it sounds hard but if you have the manual this will help you in resetting the timing marks on the chain. changing the pump should only take you six hrs on a good Saturday. Start as early as possible and have the right sealant RTV silicone heat and water resistant. Good Luck.
with the 3.3 liter engine it is real easy to find and replace. with the 3.5 you have to take the timing cover off to get to the water pump. you have to make sure the timing stays right because you have to take the timing belt off to replace the water pump. if you don't get the timing on right you have alot to worry about. if you have high mileage you might want to replace the timing belt one time too
Yeah, What engine??????
Need that or else all is rubbish for you.
3.5L- tricky and a machine shop visit plus timing belt.(hardest one to do, most chance of leaks and errors) Professional only
3.3L- 45 minutes and nothing tricky(DIY)
2.7L- Timing belt(Middle ground) recommend a professional
